1.3.1 Instructing Representatives from the Legal Department

Level 1

The approval of a Team Manager must be obtained prior to staff contacting the legal team for advice that it is thought can be provided during a short telephone conversation.

Level 2

Team Manager or above to instruct legal directly should a small piece of work (maximum £750) be required to be undertaken e.g. Counsel opinion required regarding complex CP matter or specialist legal view needed regarding an asylum issue.

Level 3

Head of Service or above required to instruct legal team to put a case into proceedings or to undertake discrete pieces of work estimated to cost more than £750.
